Island Fort Pampus, is a small island just before Amsterdam which was initiated in 1879 and finally built in 1887. It was meant / used as a defence for Amsterdam, as every boat which has Amsterdam as its destination had to pass the island. The island has been closed down in 1933 and stripped from all the iron by the Germans during the Second World War to use in their industry. Currently it's a museum and reachable by boat from Muiden. Muiden is known for its castle Muiderslot. During really strong winters, fort Pampus is reachable by foot over the frozen lake. [EXIF]
